The project involved the stripping out of two existing retail units fronting onto Dame Lane, creating one larger beauty and retail space. With 12 hair-styling stations already in the salon there was also a manicure and pedicure station, make-up area, tanning room and jewellery shop. The client wanted to create a series of dramatic interconnecting beauty spaces that make a feature of the most of unusual shape of the ceilings which are located under below the ramps of the Trinity Street car park. There was a desire for the salon to have a presence on a street that is both narrow and dark so the exterior was carefully designed to stand out with a bespoke timber glazed screen and brass lighting. The palette and bespoke use of materials on the interiors contributes to the eventual unique solution. White terrazzo wall tiles used as continuous floor and wall cladding along with a specialised polished plaster, bespoke mesh screens are some of the unusual details. Custom-made double-sided brass mirrors on a central pole suspended from the roof accentuate the space and conceal the services that run the length of the salon.
